Who was the first person to earn a doctorate degree at harvard university?
William Ellwood Byerly took the first PhD from Harvard (in Mathematics) in 1873. His dissertation was titled 'The Heat of the Sun'. The Graduate School at Harvard wasn't founded until 1872. Woodson didn't receive his PhD (in History) until 1912. W.E.B. Du Bois received his PhD from Harvard in 1896 (he was the first African American to receive a Harvard PhD).
