I want to go to Harvard University when I get older, what can I do no to prepare?

And don't tell me it's impossible, because I can do anything I set my mind to. Thank you very much. P.S. I'm in Middle School

I want to go to Harvard University when I get older, what can I do no to prepare?
Simple. Take the hardest, most advanced classes in every subject you can and get As in all of them. Math, physics, biology, English, foreign language, economics, history - everything.

Second, volunteer - at church, in hospitals, in clubs and organizations. Develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Best if you can start your own business, non-profit organization, or other institution that will help the disadvantaged.

Get over 2100 on the SAT. Preferably over 2200.

Do well in all of these and you should have a good shot (but far from a lock) at Harvard.
Reply:Just to be clear, no one can ever have a sure thing at a school by Harvard. But apply yourself and do your best, and you will have an excellent shot! Good Luck! Report It

Reply:1 - Take challenging courses all through high school. To do that, you need to be taking pre-algebra now especially. You will need to go through calculus to be competitive.

2 - Do well on those challenging courses. Take APs but don't overwhelm yourself with them. Being proficient up to fluent in a foreign language will help you a great deal.

3 - Harvard in particular looks for evidence of leadership ability, and you should also be involved in sports that are team-oriented rather than individual.

4 - Be well-rounded. Do debate, or be in the language club and other activities, but again don't overdo it! ONE unusual experience will help to set you apart--a summer or semester abroad, a travel study trip, a good science fair project, etc.
Reply:Why do you even want to go to Harvard? Is it just because of its prestige and the glory? You're only in middle school, you have a lot ahead of you. The best thing for you do to as early as possible if you want to go to a prestigious university is develop good work ethic and get involved in activities and community service.

But be aware that getting into Harvard isn't as simple as putting your mind to it. Some people are just more academically inclined to succeed than others and can handle the rigorous atmosphere of Ivy Leagues better. You can practice every day to be an amazing football player, but you don't have the athletic skill within you you're not going to get into the NFL.
Reply:Take the as many of the hardest courses that you can AND get excellent grades in them. Good extracurriculars that you have shown that you can be a leader in. Get plenty of service hours (colleges want well-rounded people). Make friends with high school teachers: they will be writing your letters of recommendation. An amazing essay is a must. And on your SAT, try to get the most perfect score you can.

Also remember, with Ivies there is always someone who is better than you. If you're taking Calculus, another kid is taking AP Calculus. If you're the president of a club, another person might have started 3 clubs and is president of all of them. Many kids are just as determind as you are, and there is always someone who is going to have an edge on you. You have to prove to Harvard why they should take YOU instead of the other person who got a perfect 2400 on their SAT. That can be very hard.

Last bit of advice: Do something that will make you stand out and force the admissions people to notice you. Start an organization, become amazing at art; anything that will make you something other than a number.

Remember: No one is for sure a "lock" at Harvard. Not even the smartest people in the world.

Good Luck with everything!
Reply:you should do the most extra curricular activities you can, right now i will be going to Harvard University Summer school for high school freshman, juniors and seniors, if you want you can try that but you need to also apply for Harvard summer school and it will deff. give you a higher edge in getting in if you do get accepted into the Harvard summer school and attend, Harvard summer school alone cost over 12,000 just to go for 4 weeks , you must stay in the Harvard dorms and live as a Harvard student, I'm going to be doing you should try once your in highshool, i also live down the street from brown university kinda and I'm going to take classes there for high school students and at RISDY which is a top art school ill be taking semester classes there to help me get into Harvard, its going to cost alot but that hwy i need to do, i think you should also get tutors and things to prep for you SAT and start now , you also want to be in pre-al. math now and at least have AP classes in high school

i might also add that Harvard turns many people down who are excellent they base there applicants on diversity, they accept a percentage of boy a percentage of girls a certain percent of Caucasian all certain percentages , ever ivy league college accepts there students on percentage of diversity, basically you just need to be special, you need to have something different about you than everyone else
