When a celeb goes to a prestigious university like Harvard, does this mean they are very capable and smart?

For example, Hillary and Haylie Duff. Did they get in due to their brains or talent or money?

Can anyone get in as long as they are rich enough?

When a celeb goes to a prestigious university like Harvard, does this mean they are very capable and smart?
I think that at any college you have to have money, tuition isn't free, and since they can afford it, why can't they get a better education? I don't think it's because they are famous, I think that Hillary is very bright also and that she could hold her own. Haylie I don't really care too much about...well...I don't really like Hillary either but I know a little bit more about Hillary...so..umm..well... I think that as long as a person has tuition money for what ever college you are going to you can get in, and you also have to have a high school diploma and good grades are also a plus. Now if Paris Hilton got into Harvard, then I would rethink what I just stated and go and protest like all hell lmfao Paris is an idiot to me, and she will always be. But...that's for anouther post.
Reply:i am pretty sure they will get in as long as they can pay the tution if you are not as smart it will probably cost more to attend the colleges. The money helps the college also so they will get treated differently if their parents may alot of money bc they will not want to loose them as students bc then the money will stop comming.
Reply:I think I can help a bit here. At my alma mater, my class valedictorian (a personal friend) is now the registrar, and we recently went through the process of my son's application (my school was one of seven, but it gave me the best insight).

The elite schools are looking for well-rounded individuals in a variety of ways. They need enough full-tuition students (the rich ones) to help subsidize the ones who need financial aid. Note, however, that even those paying full tuition are not paying their own ways: alumni contributions, endowments, grants, and other program support provide about 2/3 of the cost. If that "silver spoon" kid down the hall is shelling out $30k per year, the actual cost of education at the institution is likely pushing $100,000 per head.

They're also looking for people with all sorts of skills, backgrounds, and abilities. If they nab a large clutch of math whizzes in the early-decision period, the regular application span will see them taking more in the arts and humanities.

Again, this is all a massive balancing act. The admissions staff gets headaches for six months of the year, sweating over the applications, discussing what they've seen, and trading a few interesting cases back and forth for classification and decision. What about the homeschooler who nailed 800 math, 780 verbal, led her Destination Imagination team to a regional title, but doesn't seem to understand the concept of a paragraph? She plans to major in photographic chemistry.

Money has influence: it widens the categories into which you can be placed. Fame had influence: it brings a personal viewpoint that very few people get. Imagine having Jodie Foster as your roommate for two years -- what would you learn from her late at night? What experiences does she bring to lieterature class? She's *lived* some of the classic periods, keeping a character in the mid 19th century for a six-month shooting schedule.

I got in on pretty much raw test scores. Fortunately, my school doesn't keep it to the best SATs. My dorm unit included two guys from the "wrong side of the tracks", a football player, the son of a lingerie designer, a stereotypical city kid with a lot of potential and lousy English skills, and so on. We were the "leftovers" unit, and it was one fo the best experiences of my life. It turned into one of the most creative areas of campus, due to the wide range of backgrounds and the level of acceptance we built from day one.

I learned as much from them (perhaps more) than from my profs (who put the school in "40 Colleges that Change Lives"). Every year, the process centers on the admissions department. It's almost like the annual draft for a sports team: we need some of everything. If we have a weakness, we need to fill it. Oh, yeah -- we need a free agent to bring in more money, too. Grab the tall kid from Nebraska; he needs training, but the attitude is great, and he volunteers in the community.

Money talks. So does talent ... and fame ... and being yourself. You don't even have to be a leader: every leader needs followers with organizational skills, one-on-one understanding, and loyalty. FInd your niche, tell them who you are, and have a back-up plan. My son didn't get into his first choice, but he wouldn't trade his current situation if that first-choice school now offered him a full scholarship.
Reply:money speaks! even if you are the dumbest student in the class and you are famous and rich or your parents is. then you are guaranteed admission. as long you have the money and famous face then pack your books and welcome to the class! because you have just be admitted to the school.
Reply:I say money!!! and fame!!! It is free publicity for the school. None of those kids have BRAINS!!!!
Reply:I don't care how much money you have ... you can't get into a school like Harvard unless you are at least slightly intelligent/qualified. Think about it ... do you really think they're going to let someone who eats their own buggers in (for example) just because they're rich or connected? Its a common myth, but logically its completely ridiculous.

No matter how much money you have, once you are in Harvard you have to operate at their academic level, so if you're not smart enough you're going to fail whether or not you have money.

Sometimes schools like Harvard bend rules for influential people, but they're not going to bend them that far. I was admitted to the University of Southern California (didn't end up attending) because an uncle of mine who donated two million dollars to the school called in a favor. However, I had a 3.75 GPA (unweighted) and a 1420 on my SAT's (I was academically qualified to go there ... I just couldn't afford it).
Reply:You need brains. The top universities give out a lot of financial aid, so they do not need rich people who are not very smart to attend.
Reply:I think anyone can get in as long as they are rich enough...
Reply:Money has influence.

Going to these schools is more about having and gaining new connections. The curriculum is good but can be found in the same quality elsewhere as well. Knowledge does not equate wisdom or common sense.
Reply:You can't get into Harvard unless you have good grades and high SAT scores. Other factors can be involved too, such as your areas of interests, previous achievements and whether or not your parents are Harvard alumni.
Reply:I think that for a celeb to get into Harvard, they do have to be capable and smart. I think that for an non-celeb to get in, they have to be extremely capable and exceptionally smart.
Reply:Well Brooke Shields and Jodie Foster did it and they are intelligent. Perhaps entrance is easier but I do believe you still have to do the work. I don't think the university would eschew academic integrity simply for ones celebrity status.
Reply:i think that their being capable and smart might be measured by the "talent" they have demonstrated rather than their academic history.

Do you think a high level university (stanford, harvard) will accept me?

Hi guys

i'm a freshman in highschool right now, but i'm really concerned about my chances of getting into a good college. my current gpa is 3.6 and i am in math club and going to do soccer in the spring. i am currently taking all periods and no off periods and plan to do that for my entire time at the high school. i am going to join key club next year, and play tennis and either basketball wrestling. i think this will help my chances in getting into a good college. also, i'm only a freshman, so i still have time to raise my gpa and get in community service hours. i know colleges are looking for people who stand out from the crowd. i have a youtube account and make vlogs, and now everyone in the school knows me. does that count? what else should I do?

please tell me all the advice you can give me!!!

Do you think a high level university (stanford, harvard) will accept me?
I agree with Adam. Fact is no amount of community service or tennis will get you into Harvard. Believe it or not, the youtube/video stuff will help, but you need to turn that into something productive - a business, non-profit, something that no one else has thought about. A very average Harvard student will have led student government, volunteered in her community and church, participated on the debate team and academic decathlon, and graduated in the top 2% of her class after taking the hardest possible course curriculum. And this (hypothetical) person is only average because she did not do something truly extraordinary.

Fact is, the way you're going, you have very little chance at an top Ivy League (Stanford is a hack school so who knows). But I wouldn't worry about it - just do the best you can in school, enjoy HS, and apply to top 50 schools, especially in your area. But if you must, continue with the hardest classes you can possible take, and get A's in them all.
Reply:You will need to have perfect grades from now on, and you need to take the toughest classes possible if you want to go to an elite school. The extracurricular activities are important, but only if your grades and test scores are good enough, so be careful not to focus on those to the detriment of your grades.

Rather than focusing on some particular school or schools, which ends up being a great frustration for many people, you would do better to focus on creating as many options for yourself as possible. By the time you are a junior, you may or may not want to go to Harvard or Stanford; however, what you definitely want is to be in a position to choose to do whatever you want to do, rather than having to settle for what is available to you.
Reply:Those schools are massively over-rated. Don't even bother. There are dozens of wonderful schools aside from Harvard and Stanford. I suggest you focus your efforts on those instead.

As for what you should do - you should enjoy your high school experience. You're only a freshman. Do those things you are most interested in, work hard in your classes, and don't get involved in the thankless rat race for the small handful of Ivy League schools - waste of time.

How much does a year cost in a university like harvard, yale, oxford or cambridge?

i just wanted to know how much a year costs in one of those prestigious universities...i can't find anything on their site

How much does a year cost in a university like harvard, yale, oxford or cambridge?
"If you have to ask, you can't afford it"--an old and wise saying. Write the registrat at each and ask, dude.
Reply:Harvard and Yale are over $45K per year.

Oxford and Cambridge are probably $50K per year once you include the exchange rates.
Reply:I had a bro go to harvard last month it was like 19,000 for a freshman year. Good luck!
Reply:and to add on to the others, tuition fees increases every year in every school
Reply:Those schools... the tuition is 30,000 bucks, then the room and board is another 10,000 dollars, then books and fees which is like 2,000?... this is all in ONE year. You have to be rich or genius enough to get good scholarships to get to go to those places.

Who went to Boston University or Harvard? Or any Ivy Leage? Is it good? Do you like it?

Umm, Boston U isn't an Ivy League... I didn't go there, but I've applied, if that counts. I know people there who love it, but it is on the large side, and there isn't really a campus, as it's integrated into the city of Boston. For me, that's a turn-off, but again, lots of people love it.

Who went to Boston University or Harvard? Or any Ivy Leage? Is it good? Do you like it?
I have a friend at Boston U. They've got strong school spirit there but its not ivy league.

Which is the best University....Columbia, Harvard or Stanford?

I was just wondering....

Which is the best University....Columbia, Harvard or Stanford?
Maybe none of them. It really depends on you and what you are looking for. Each school has its own personality and strengths. Finding the right college is about FIT, not a brand name.

I would also throw out there that if you are an undergraduate student none of them are the best. Most people know them because they publish a lot of their research, but that it at the GRADUATE level. All those big name professors don't interact with the undergrads. You won't be working with them, getting the benefit of their amazing work, etc. You will be a number in a classroom full of people, probably working with a teaching assistant.

If you are considering one of these ultra competitive schools, there is a high probability you will also go on to graduate school. Here is an alternative. Consider a small private liberal arts school. They too are ultracompetitive, but one of the big differences is that there are no grad students who get to do the cool stuff. Classes are typically 20 people. Your professor KNOWS you personally (very helpful later when you need letters of rec for grad programs) and works at a small school because he or she loves to teach. They still do research and keep current on their fields, and since there are no grad students YOU get to be the one to help them. There are more opportunities than there is time to take advantage of all the things at small schools.

And in case you are worried about "attending a school no one has heard of", you are wasting your time. Graduates of top liberal arts colleges are highly desirable to grad schools and businesses. Not only do they have the research skills already, but they can COMMUNICATE what they know too! Knowledge is useless if you can't communicate it to another person. They also tend to be good at time management and are used to a competitive environment.

So go to an undergrad only school where YOU are the priority, and then to a big name school like you mentioned which is better suited to grad students for your advanced degree.

But even if you disregard all I have said about small schools, make sure you find a fit, not just a brand name. You only have four years and you want to get the best possible experience.
Reply:For what? That makes all the difference. All have strengths (such as Stanford for EE), and in their strengths that would be the school of choice. Harvard does have the best alumni network, however.
Reply:i heve best univarsity is harvard %26amp; londan

but your choice my choice to londan

pls love mail giveme pls %26amp; ask me you
Reply:It depends on what major you want to focus on
Reply:I think Harvard is the best.

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Where is the University of Harvard located?
At Harvard Square in Cambridge. The streets are line with trees and you can see old English America first hand. The buildings are historical and the atmosphere is very intellectual. Book stores, students reading on the grass and movement of student going to and from class.

No; they are two separate universities. They are both in Massachusetts (Cambridge and Boston, respectively), but beyond that, they're two totally different institutions.

How can someone study at Harvard or Stanford university with little tuition?

or any other prestigous university...

How can someone study at Harvard or Stanford university with little tuition?
They all have need-based financial aid programs. You need to tell them your family's financial details, and they estimate what you can afford, then give you the rest as some combination or work, loan, and grants. The expensive private universities actually often have more aid available for international students than public universities do, because most government aid programs are only for US citizens.
Reply:By applying for scholarships or bursaries. There are plenty available, you just have to look them up. There are so many bursaries people don't know about, that are left unapplied for, that would be an easy way to get some money towards your tuition. Simple google bursaries and scholarships.

Wht do you think of Harvard college? Havard university's night school....?

as `i understand it, HC makes the excellence of Harvard U.accessible to all , without those pesky prereqs. like high SATs and great grades....

Wht do you think of Harvard college? Havard university's night school....?
Harvard College is not the night school. It is, in fact, the undergraduate college that requires the sky high SATs and top grades. The Harvard Extension School is the night school that allows local students from a variety of backgrounds to take courses on the Harvard campus. However, these courses are rarely taught by Harvard faculty. So other than the name Harvard and the fact that they take place in Harvard classrooms, they are not necessarily any better than other competing night programs in the Boston area.

High grades GPA in university, can they transfer to harvard or princeton or ivy league?

when you have a highest GPA in university.

does this mean they can transfert to harvard, princeton and other prestigueous university by ivy league ?

give me a honest answer, thanks you all people

god bless for everyone

High grades GPA in university, can they transfer to harvard or princeton or ivy league?
Even with top grades, you're dreaming, unless you actually have $45,620 (not including books and personal expenses) (Harvard 2007-2008) per YEAR to attend such a school!
Reply:This is a very vague question but I will try to answer to the best of my ability. Having the highest grades at your college will probably give you a chance of being transferred to a better college (depending on what college you are currently going to). Other factors include (standardized) test scores and extracurricular activities. But all in all, ivy league schools accept very few transfers, so it will be tough- but it is possible.

Good luck!
Reply:Harvard and Princeton stopped accepting transfer students.

Could a 4.0 GPA from Howard University get one into Harvard Law?
I'm not going to give you 'What are the chances of that happening' If you're asking the question, you're obviously serious about it, so you can definitely do it.

That is a good GPA, good extracurriclars, LSAT. I would say you have a good chance of getting in there. Just make sure your essay is really good and make them know why you would better their school.
Reply:Absolutely. Howard is a strong school. Frankly, if you had all of that at Podunk State U. you would have a good chance of getting into Harvard. There is never a guarantee, but you would have a good chance.
Reply:Howard is the best of the HBCUs. Harvard is committed to having a diverse student body. I think someone with a 4.0 from Howard and a perfect LSAT score has a great shot at Harvard and would get into a lot of top tier law schools.

I know Howard undergrads who did well (but no perfect exam scores and no 4.0) who got into other Harvard graduate programs.

What is AP and will it help me get admitted into University (Harvard, Princeton, MIT)?

I am thinking about doing the problem. Do I need to go to a school that offers the AP program or can I try to study in the Advanced Placement program even if my school doesn't offer it? How do I do that?

Your answers will guide the future of my education. Your help is really appreciated. Thank you.

What is AP and will it help me get admitted into University (Harvard, Princeton, MIT)?
YES. AP is Advanced Placement classes that are courses taught at the collegiate level. AP classes will be your key to get into higher education. Don't even dream of not taking AP classes, there would be no chance you would get into an Ivy League such as Harvard. Also, take the AP tests, the SATs, and the ACT, to fully make yourself a potential in the eyes on the university.
Reply:Exactly what JAS said. You should definitely take AP courses. Not only are they college level courses but if you do well enough, you can often get college credit for them so you have less classes you need to take.
Reply:Even if you don't get into an ivy league school, the college credit you get from AP scores will take a good amount of money off of your tuition and save you a lot of time.

Do you believe that an university such as Arizona state university can give you an equal education as harvard?

I'm referring to the quality of education and the benefits comparing the two. It doesn't have to be ASU vs. Harvard. It can be University of Missouri-Columbia vs. Yale

Do you believe that an university such as Arizona state university can give you an equal education as harvard?
Like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put in. There are many, many successful people who didn't go to ivy league schools. But they're also the ones who did more than what was expected of them. The people that go the extra mile are the ones that tend to excel in whatever they wish to do. Besides most of the folks who got into ivy league schools are there because of that extra 110 percent!
Reply:hells yeah. even UAA usually has some better results than harvard in the language dpt.
Reply:no, idiot, harvard is harvard. stop trying to rationalize your failure because one of the finest institutions in the nation rejected you.

How many credits from high school does Harvard's university expect?

Does anyone know how many credits from high school do you need to attend the Havard University?

And how much does a year approximatelly cost?

How many credits from high school does Harvard's university expect?
there's really no min or max. but you'll need over a 4.1 GPA weighted to get in! take 2-3 AP classes per year.

Harvard and all the Ivy League schools will cost $40,000+, including housing, tuition, books, fees...etc.
Reply:it is not about the credit. GPA is one of the most important. your sat and act tests too. and why du wanna go there?
Reply:It's not about credit; they expect you to have a high school degree. Harvard costs a little more than $40,000 a year but almost no one pays it. Most people are on full or partial scholarships. Remember, even though it's one of the best colleges in the country, it's not the best at every subject, and there are thousands of other schools out there, many of them just as well respected. Don't limit your choices.

Has anyone attended Harvard, Yale, Tufts, Boston University, or UMass? What's it like studying it there?

I'm in high school as of now and I'm thinking of applying to get into these universities. I really want to study at Harvard, but I know it's hard to get into. For current students or alumni, what's it like to attend in these universities? How good are they when it comes to academics? How would you rank the professors? What about the admission process? Did you do anything special in high school or in the community? Thanks for your help.

P.S. I'm also thinking of going to Princeton. Has anyone else studied or is studying at Princeton or at another Ivy League university?

Has anyone attended Harvard, Yale, Tufts, Boston University, or UMass? What's it like studying it there?
erm, i have lots of friends that did, harvard and yale are ives and tufts, boston, and UMass are not even in the same league. ppl who graduated with 4.0s and 2400 on SATs get rejected at princeton and yale and harvard all the time.. i suggest you maintain a high grade point average and get a high SAT score, at least 2000, but also do extracurricular activities. someting that makes you stand out. good luck.
Reply:I'm a current BU student and I absolutely love it.

For me, studying at BU has been a great challenge, I've learned so much but it was nothing like HS. I love the variety of subjects and the teachers are fantastic.

I didn't do so well on the SATs, but I had straight A's in HS and wrote a kick *** essay. I was also overly involved in extracurricular activities. I did a lot of community service too.

BU admissions like students who push themselves and are well-rounded.

I love BU!
Reply:You have to be a freakin valedictorian to get into those schools! Not happening with me. I am an above average student, but not a genius. Good luck though.
Reply:Personally, I haven't... I'm still in high school. But, obviously those schools are top tear when it comes to academics. You have to be at the top 3% ish to get in and being a minority would help. Work in the community and if you're not yet an upperclassman... run for a class office position. If you're a good student try to aim for a school a little less prestigeous than those listed above^^^. Boston College, Wake Forest, William%26amp;Mary, Vanderbilt etc. When it comes to getting to a decent school I'm nervous myself. But hopefully those tips might help...?

Reply:well is ur daddy an alumni? if so u can get int iwth a C average.
Reply:Well of course if all that happened you'd get into Harvard Law, but I'd doubt the plausibility of this combination, especially at Howard. Here's something to consider, too. While you can get a degree in whatever you want and go on to law school, it would be logical for you to get a degree in something such as business. Try to pick a major that could translate to an actual job after graduation, in case you decide not to go to law school or get accepted. A school is also not likely to allow you to take 3 concurrent majors, and you usually have to be a stellar performer to even make 2 work.
Reply:Yes, but just make sure you can afford it.
Reply:They also look for volunteer work from various places

Habitat for Humanity

Soup kitchens

Childrens hospitals....etc.
Reply:A 4.0 is the highest mark possible right, at least the last time I looked it was, and a 4.0 from a college such as Howard should carry the same weight as a 4.0 from another, that is unless other issues prevent you from entry, and I hope it don't, good luck.
Reply:It's possible. Everything would have to go in your favor, and the likelihood of all those things happening is quite slim, but it's possible. I don't say that regarding Howard University, but about anyone trying to get into Harvard Law. It's difficult for anyone, from any school.

Here's what you'll need: a flawless or near flawless GPA (3.8-4.0), a fantastic LSAT score (minimum 170), great letters of recommendation, and a well-written personal statement.

There are books to help you in each of these areas, and each is as important as the others. Don't just assume good scores will follow (unless you've already obtained great scores); the LSAT is very difficult until you get the hang of the questions, and the personal statement is more difficult to write than you think.
Reply:it depends on a lot of factors, kids with alumni parents always have first shot--regardless of their GPA. They will not care if you were in a sorority, and although the extra curriculars are good, they will look more at what volunteer service you have done. Every kid applying to Harvard has a perfect GPA and SAT score, so they usually rely very heavily on the volunteer work and usually pick those that have years of volunteer service to there credit, just have a few months to put on an application will not help you
Reply:Line up with the other 20,000 applicants with similar credentials. You have the same chance as any of them

Is community services important when applying for a great University (Harvard, MIT)? Will it help get admitted

- I am thinking about applying to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Princeton and Caltech for studying Advanced Mathematics and Physics in a Undergraduate Program.

- I live in Calgary, Canada.

- I study in one of the best schools in Calgary that has the International Program (www.IBO.org) and my grades are great! I have only A's.

- I only have my report cards of Grade 10-11 and I am doing 12 now.

- Sorry for my English, I moved from Brazil to Canada a year ago and my English doesn't look really good.

- I will do my SATs in 3 months or less, where I will need great grades, I will try to be in the 95% or more, of course.

Is community services important when applying for a great University (Harvard, MIT)? Will it help get admitted
No, it's not important. Do community service if it's your calling -- if you are truly, deeply passionate about people in need. If it's not, then focus on what you are passionate about. Admissions officers are very good at spotting resume padding -- a shopping list of activities that the applicant does just because society demands it. An example of such a list: "Varsity tennis, piano for 8 years, volunteering at a hospital, Key Club, National Honor Society." It really doesn't tell anyone about who you are.

Colleges, especially the private universities at the top, care much more about personality and passion than the media thinks they do. They receive so many applicants with the same scores and grades and activities that there needs to be something else that stands out about you.
Reply:Community Service is not essential to be admitted to those institutions, yet do you have outside activities that are substantial such as a sport or a special interest?
Reply:That stuff is essential. It's called extra curricular activities. Basically, anything done other than grades. It can be sports, community service, church group stuff, research projects, music, business, etc.

You have to realize that those top schools get a ton of well qualified applicants. Nearly everyone will have perfect grades and standardized test scores. So, to pick out those who merely study from those who are truly exceptional and well rounded students, the colleges look at the extra currics, personal essays, and letters of recommendations.

People have gotten rejected for something as stupid as a letter of rec saying a kid has been a "good leader," which is not as flowery as "the greatest leader to ever cross my path".
Reply:Schools like Harvard and MIT are hit or miss. They don't like too much of a good thing, but really like well-balanced students. Good grades aren't everything, Harvard has been known to accept B average students. Sports aren't everything, Ivy League schools have been known to reject kids with tons of varsity letters and sports. Community Service can be big one year, and not the next, though generally most colleges like to see their students giving back to the community.

I hope this helped a little.

You're right - it is a lot. According to collegeboard.com, annual tuition was about $35,000 this fall. There's also room and board costs (about $10,000 a year) and supplies (about $1,000 a year).

Ouch! I'm glad to be in the UK - only £20000 ($40000) of debt for me to study here!

Whats the minimum GPA and SAT score that will allow you to apple to Harvard University Undergraduate Program?

I believe there are no specific requirements listed on Harvard's website but the mean GPA is about 3.92 and the mean SAT is about 2250-2300. Don't expect to be accepted with those score though, because that is just the average and many applicants have higher stats than that.

Whats the minimum GPA and SAT score that will allow you to apple to Harvard University Undergraduate Program?
I am currently attending Harvard in part with the Undergraduate Program and my SAT scores were 2390. My GPA over 4 years of High School was a 3.91 and I am doing just fine and had no problem getting into the school.

Which college would you go to for Ph.D in Robotic Engineering? To Harvard University or Uni. of Centeral FL?

Now, I am confused after reading people's responses. I don't know which college to go? I don't know which college is the best for Ph. D in Robotic Engineering.

Which college would you go to for Ph.D in Robotic Engineering? To Harvard University or Uni. of Centeral FL?
I know one thing is for sure. we can say alot to you, but the best thing is for you to research each school. Compare the schools through years of experience, graduations, Job placement. However, you are an individual, choose the school that meets your needs as specific as possible. The truth is the best school is the one the best serves you!!!!!

Do you have an idea of what exact SAT score is required by Harvard University.?

Harvard, like most highly selective institutions, does not have an ACT or SAT minimum requirement, per se. Similarly, there is no absolute minimum grade point average required for admission. The University considers a number of factors, none of which would surprise you, in making their admissions decisions.

Again, like other extremely selective institutions, Harvard has been known to deny admission to valedictorians, students with a 4.0 high school grade point average, and students with perfect ACT or SAT scores. Special talent, diversity and/or legacy status can be a (big or small) "tip" factor.

If you visit the Harvard website you can probably find a profile of their incoming class. This year, the University offered admission to about 9% of their applicants, most of whom were very solid to spectacular students.

Don't be scared off by highly selective colleges unless you fall far below their profile ranges, but be sure to apply to appropriate "safety" schools.

Do you have an idea of what exact SAT score is required by Harvard University.?
"56% of the applicants scored 1400 or higher on SATs; almost 2,150 scored a perfect 800 on the SAT verbal; more than 3,200 scored an 800 on the SAT math."

I don't think Harvard has a standard SAT score, since they only accept about 10% of the people who apply. Most likely, they consider all things. Given how high those scores are, it's doubtful they have a minimum score for the test.
Reply:It must certainly be high, but they also look at the classes you took in high school, your high school GPA, did you improve from 9 to 12, and your extra-curricular. It's a multi-level consideration. Look at the website for admission information.
Reply:"Harvard does not have clearly defined, required minimum scores; however, the majority of students admitted to the College represent a range of scores from roughly 600 to 800 on each section of the SAT Reasoning Test as well as on the SAT Subject Tests."
Reply:It's not possible, usually, to answer that question for any Ivy League university. Most universities don't have the resources to go through all their applications with a fine-tooth comb to discover the "diamonds in the rough," so to speak, candidates who might not look the best on paper but who have something unique and special to contribute. To thin their pile quickly without too much expenditure, they usually have strict cutoffs for GPAs and SATs, and applicants that don't meet those marks are simply not considered.

The Ivies, on the other hand, do take the time to look through everything carefully. At Harvard you will meet many students who were rejected by much lesser institutions, often due to low scores on standardized tests. Not everyone does well on those tests, and the Ivies usually make it their mission to look at as many factors as possible when putting together their student body.

All this to say, briefly, that high test scores and/or a high average in no way guarantees admission to any of the Ivies. It also means that, if you think the school is a good fit for you, you should apply, even if you think your marks or scores might not be good enough. The worst that can happen is that they will say no.

If you're not admitted, don't sweat it. It doesn't mean that you're not a good student or that your resume isn't competitive. It just means that you don't happen to be exactly what they're looking for that year.

If you really want an Ivy-League education, apply at several of them. It's never possible to know whether you will be admitted at this one or that one.

I don't know what your plans are, but do take the time to research each school carefully. No matter how brilliant you are, a school isn't necessarily right for you based on reputation alone.

All the best.

How is one graded in the SAT exams and howmuch do u need to get into harvard university?

The SAT has three sections, each of which is scored from 200 to 800, inclusive, by 10s. Thus, you could receive a math score of 200, a writing score of 580, and a critical reading score of 800. In addition, you receive an essay grade, which is part of your writing score but also reported separately. The essay is graded by two separate graders, each of whom gives it a score from 0 to 6, inclusive. (A score of 0 means you are off topic, so for all practical considerations, your score will be between 2 and 12, inclusive.)

The score is calculated from your raw score. For reading, your raw score is the number of questions correct minus 1/4 of the number of questions wrong. Omitted questions do not count either way. For example, if you answered 60 questions and missed 10, your raw score would be 50 - 10/4 or 47.5. That number is then rounded to the nearest integer. (A score than ends with .5 is rounded up.) Finally, that number is translated into a score on the 200-800 scale using a formula that varies slightly from test to test.

For the math section, there is only one exception to this scoring formula. Some of the questions are not multiple choice, and for those, wrong answers do not count against you.

For the writing section, your essay grade is used to calculate the score, too.

Now, regarding Harvard, there is no minimum score. Like pretty much all universities, Harvard takes into account a variety of factors. SAT score is merely one of them, and you will find that people with perfect scores are sometimes rejected while people with significantly lower scores get in.

What kind of average ( out of a 100) do you need to be accepted into Harvard University?

They reject people who have 100/100 GPAs every year at Harvard and other Ivies. Some people get in with 90+ averages, but they are unusual and have other things going for them.

There is no GPA that guarantees you admission to Harvard, it is very competitive.

What kind of average ( out of a 100) do you need to be accepted into Harvard University?
A or higher average. But they look at at least 20-30 other things before accepting or denying you, since your GPA is not the ONLY factor. Your SAT, Essay, Interview, Sports, achievements, etc. will play a big role in it. However, Yes you do need at least a 3.8+ GPA to have a really good shot at getting in. go to www.collegeboard.com and search harvard U and see the rank of the students. 95% are in the top 10% of there highgschool class.
Reply:Acceptance to Harvard doesn't necessarily depend upon your average. There are a variety of factors such as community involvement, leadership experience, ACT and SAT scores, etc.

Or you can be a complete moron and get in as long as you're a legacy and your family has enough money to donate.

What grade point average would you need in order to get into harvard university?

About a 2.9 GPA or higher should land you a spot in harvard.

What grade point average would you need in order to get into harvard university?
To get into schools like Harvard, it's rarely a matter of gpa since they turn down many 4.0's every year. They can't take the top student from each school, or even each state, really. You need to have something special about you - a publication, actual research, put out a CD, started a non-profit, ran for office, etc. Something to set you apart - normal gpa and extra-circulars won't make you stand out. You might get in anyway, but it's a long shot, no matter what your gpa is.
Reply:probably a 3.8 or higher, but you need more than that to get into Harvard. You really have to have somthing special about yourself to get in there.
Reply:If you need to ask this question in this forum, forget going to any university.
Reply:Plenty of people with 4.0's and perfect test scores get denied often.

It's a combination of the "total package", sheer luck, your competition, etc. to get in.
Reply:There's no good answer to that-- too many factors play into the process.

Your background, test scores, extracurriculars, admissions essays/personal statements, etc. are all factors.

Generally, you'll want at least a 3.5 gpa, if not higher. But, the other factors are important, too.

The higher your GPA, the more impressive your test scores, and the most unique, exemplary extracurriculars you have, the better your chances.

Extraccuriculars are not about how many you're involved with, but your level of participation. Did you found a top charity in your city? Did you invent something? It's not about how many boards you're on or memberships you hold.
Reply:4.0+ leadership + extracurriculars + service work + good interview = possible admission
Reply:There is no formula for gaining admission to Harvard. Successful applicants present strong academic credentials, evidence of highly developed talents or interests, motivation and character. We hope that every student who is committed to excellence in its many forms will explore the opportunities at Harvard and consider applying to the College. There is no single academic path we expect all students to follow, but the strongest applicants take the most rigorous secondary school curricula available to them. An ideal four-year preparatory program includes four years of English, with extensive practice in writing; four years of math; four years of science: biology, chemistry, physics, and an advanced course in one of these subjects; three years of history, including American and European history; and four years of one foreign language.

The Admissions Committee recognizes that schools vary by size, academic program, and grading policies, so we do not have rigid grade requirements.

There is no single academic path we expect all students to follow, but the strongest applicants take the most rigorous secondary school curricula available to them. We do seek students who achieve at a high level, and most admitted students rank in the top 10-15% of their graduating classes.

Is there a course for Network Marketing or Multi-level Marketing in Harvard University?

Sure there is a course at Harvard, in fact, here is an excerpt of the syllabus:

I. Adapting to Ignorance

- learning to take words as fact

- never verifying any claims

- assuming your upline is rich

II. Avoiding Logic

- learning to only use convenient math

- taking selective facts to back up your ridiculous claims

III. Saying Goodbye

- goodbye to your friends

- goodbye to your credibility

- goodbye to your credit and savings

*extra credit* is your sanity recoverable after MLM?

IV. Looking down on success / ironic twist

- looking at anyone outside MLM as a fool

- discovering there is no other business other than MLM

- overlooking that your successful upline rides the bus

V. Coping with overpriced ridiculous products

- claiming your product cures cancer

- ignoring that your product can't compete in the real world

VI. Aftermath

- dealing with living out of your car

- making your upline rich buying his inspirational tapes

- realizing "belief" was just a method to make you overlook math

Is there a course for Network Marketing or Multi-level Marketing in Harvard University?
Regardless of what you would hear from those involved in the process, these aren't considered respected forms of marketing. Also, a school of Harvard's stature would be unlikely to offer courses on specific techniques like this, since there is no theory behind them. So the answer is no.
Reply:I doubt it! Network marketing and MLM are not very legitimate. I doubt an institution with as fine a reputation as Harvard would stoop to offering courses in those endeavors.
Reply:no

Who was the first person to earn a doctorate degree at harvard university?

Who was the first person to earn a doctorate degree at harvard university?
William Ellwood Byerly took the first PhD from Harvard (in Mathematics) in 1873. His dissertation was titled 'The Heat of the Sun'. The Graduate School at Harvard wasn't founded until 1872. Woodson didn't receive his PhD (in History) until 1912. W.E.B. Du Bois received his PhD from Harvard in 1896 (he was the first African American to receive a Harvard PhD).

How much the school fee need for me to study in harvard university? I'm live in Indonesia.?

The tuition goes around $40,000 per year...but again, it depends whether you're planning for undergraduate programs or grad.....

If you are an international student..the school will required you to submit a bank statement from Indonesia along with your application.

In your bank account, you have to have at least 4 times of the amount (per year) needed to go to Harvard.

i.e. if the tuition fee is $40,000 per year then you have to have at least $160,000 stated on your bank statement as a proof that you are able to pay the tuition at least for the next 4 years.

Harvard also offers financial aid for international students although it might not covers the whole tuition fee but at least, it helps..!

How much the school fee need for me to study in harvard university? I'm live in Indonesia.?
School Fees (textbooks, insurance, etc.) are all depend on how much are you willing to spend. i.e. choose a new edition textbook/an older edition which cost a lot less...

You also need to think about the housing issue whether you want to stay at the dorms, rent an apt/house, etc. Report It

Reply:Harvard is a needs blind university- if your family makes less than $40,000 a year they will assist you with a finaicial aid package that will cover your school and living - if you are accepted - if your family makes greater than 40K then depends on many other factor- you should contact the admission office and the school/college within Harvard University you have been accepted to - to get more concrete advice -

What classes would a high school student need to enter Harvard University?

ALL classes that start with "AP".

What classes would a high school student need to enter Harvard University?
AP classes with A grades and heartfelt involvement in community service projects. Also, learn to write very well since your application essay will need to be brilliant too.
Reply:If you are really interested, contact Harvard's admissions department and ask them for their entry requirements. Generally, they look very hard at your grades- don't drop below a 3.7 GPA. Your classes should include all the basics (English, math, science, history, etc), but you must also move beyond the basics into advanced studies (physics, chemistry, calculus, etc).
Reply:Take as many college level courses that your high school offers. I would also suggest that you keep a full schedule, take as many different types of classes as possible. I would also recommend lots of extracurricular activities and being very involved with your school.
Reply:everyclass you can you need to impress them, because their are lots of smart people out there and they want it to, if you play sports it will help

What is the procedure and requirements for the admission in Harvard university?

for doing MBA

What is the procedure and requirements for the admission in Harvard university?
money..

and then good grades i guess
Reply:The requirements: good grades and work-experience. The procedure: well, fill out an application form, of course. But I would advise you to go to Harvard's MBA Site and find the information there. Or get in touch with the school. I'm sure the website will provide you with a contact person/address/phone/e-mail.
Reply:I would say you'd need to have graduated from a top 50 University Magna or Summa honors. You'll need between 6 to 10 years of work experience after the bachelors at a great company. You'll need to score 99 percentile on the GMAT. I would also imagine that having money and family that is alumni would be a strong plus. If your employer is big and sponsoring your MBA, your chances are that much greater. Applying is no different than you did in undergrad. Go to the website, pay up, and wait for a reply.

Incase you're interested, Cambridge offers a free application for their MBA program that lasts only 1 year. Wouldn't hurt to apply.

Why is it so hard to enter stanford univresity or harvard university?

when do u have to start getting A's to enter them?

Why is it so hard to enter stanford univresity or harvard university?
They are some of the top academic schools in the country. You have to have A's through out high school and will have to be in the top part of your class if its a big class or 1st or 2nd if you have a small graduating class. You will also need to get almost perfect on your ACTs and SATs. Good Luck
Reply:It is hard because there are a lot of people wanting to attend these universities, therefore the admissions people can be selective. For example, Stanford received around 24,000 applications last year, and admitted around 2400.

It is never too early to start preparing. Since 9/10 of the applicants are rejected, you need to have a stronger application than they did.

Best of luck. And remember there are plenty of fine universities other than these two. They are also selective, but probably not to this degree.
Reply:nice to get into the habit in middle school. But as soon as you start high school you should start gett ing staight A's.

Straight A's isn't all it takes though. You need to be incredible impressive.

I know a girl who receiver a 2370 on her SATs. She had over 4.0 for her GPA. She played volleyball and piano. Yet when she applied to Stanford, she got waitlisted.

She seems like a well rounded student, and very gifted. But Stanford told her she was a cookie cutter student, and they had more just like her. She needed to do something amazing, win a huge award, or show leadership.
Reply:First of all, you can't make any grammatical errors on your application. It might sound petty, but the admissions departments of these schools will cut you for doing that no matter what your SAT scores and academic records happen to be.

Secondly, it is helpful to have either extremely wealthy, prominent parents (preferably alumni) or to come from a poor background. They like people from extreme backgrounds, so middle of the road, average American kids are a bit disadvantaged.

Thirdly, one must have extracurricular activities as well as good grades. They don't want somebody that has only been a good student. They're looking for people who participate and engage in many activities.

Not many people get into these schools, and you shouldn't worry about it too much. There are so many great state schools out there that cost much less than these elitist private schools.
Reply:stanford and harvard are hard to get into because so many strong applicants apply. you should try to get A's through all of high school. however, your grades from your jr. yr are the most important

Is 2300 in SAT is enough you to go to Harvard University?

If you get 2300 in SAT can you go?

Is 2300 in SAT is enough you to go to Harvard University?
Yes, provided you've got perfect grades, a killer essay, gushing letters of recs, and some amazing extra currics. SAT and grades alone don't cut it alone. There are plenty of kids who will score a 2300+ with a perfect 4.0 unweighted GPA in hard classes.
Reply:yes

good luck!!!
Reply:You're certainly en route to being a qualified candidate, but there's so much more to it...and even if you are "ideal" for Harvard, they get so many top-notch applications, they turn down people for no "real" reason other than they simply run out of spots.
Reply:It's a great score, but keep in mind that almost everyone admitted will have scores at least in the 700s on each test - the middle 50% for reading is 700-800, and 700-800 for math (according the the Fiske Guide to Colleges anyway). They also require 3 SAT Subject Tests, so you've got to do well on those, too.

And then amazing recs, activities, gpa, etc. with the toughest curriculum you can get your hands on in high school.

Reply:Check with the librarian at your school to see which databases are available to you. I searched one database called Journal Storage (JSTOR) and found a number of articles that mentioned John Hale in connection with the Salem witch trials. Good luck.

I am a sophomore and I want to get into Harvard University?

I am a sophmore, I get straight As. I am taking all honor classes, and I will be taking All AP classes that are availabe to me next year. I am a wrestler and I volunteer every week 3 hours. I am in Key Club and Youth Government club. I know I need to get at least a 2300 on my SAT and write a damn good essay but what other extra curricular activities can I do?

I am a sophomore and I want to get into Harvard University?
Hey,

I am a senior and am the Key Club president of Oxford Academy, Division 30 South, Region 13.

IB looks better than AP's. IB is much harder test to pass.

If you want to follow a certain major, then you should volunteer at a place that has to do with the major. For example, if you want to pursue medical career, then volunteer at a doctor's office or at a hospital. This shows that you are making decisions that has to do with your interest. It shows planning, focus, and intellect.

You have the extra-curricular activities, but do you have leadership? Try and take hold of a leadership position by running for office in anyone of your clubs.

Also, try out for a sport that works with teams. You are in a sport, but it only requires working with oneself. They want students who can work with other people and being on a sports team that works with other people will show just that.

Try to get awards. This sounds overly ambitious, but you are not going to get awards without showing people that you deserved it, so really get involved with wrestling, Key Club, etc.

Make good student-to-teacher relationships and find the teachers that you want recommendations from. Take note that they should know you to a certain degree, they like you, and they can actually write a letter. For example, a teacher that really likes you may not sound as passionate about you on paper as another teacher, who is an English teacher, can.

these are all things that i have on hte top of my head. Wish you luck.
Reply:Sounds like you are on the write track!! Keep volunteering and doing things that make you unique from other applicants. Maybe look into a summer college program there and go and take a 1-4 week class there in the summer. These programs are also very difficult to get into. I did this at Cornell, and it really helped. This way the school knows how serious you are about attending, and it really makes you stick out on an application. You need to give up a week or two of your summer, but it will really improve your chances. Keep volunteering, getting A's, and studying for the SAT's and I'd say you have a good chance.
Reply:Sounds like you've got a shot. But rather than set your sites specifically on Harvard, broaden it to getting into a top-notch college. There are many out there.
Reply:It takes more than just an incredible GPA, Stellar SAT Scores, and a large amount of extra curricular activities. I knew a girl...she was ethnically diverse, 4.00 GPA, 2400 SAT Score, National Merit Scholar winner, 6 AP's: she got accepted by Yale, Princeton, MIT, Dartmouth, and Brown. She got denied by Harvard.

Similarly, i also knew a girl who got a 2100ish SAT, 3 AP's, but she had been on TV. She got into to Harvard. The only easy way to say this is: THERE IS NOT FOOLPROOF WAY TO GET INTO HARVARD. My personal suggestion would be to explore one of your talents (acting, singing, spelling, playing the kazoo, etc.). Harvard is not looking for people who know all the words in the dictionary. They are looking for people whose talents extend beyond the classroom.

In the end, don't stress if you don't get into Harvard, it does not mean your are a bad student. It just means that Harvard is a highly selective university which has no criteria for accepting applicants.

Don't Stress,

What gpa do u have to have to get into harvard university?

Definitely a 4.0, but you have to offer much more then good grades on your transcript (extra curricular activities, sports, leadership... anything that really stands out). They're looking for people with a wide range of talents. Its sad, but its true if your a women you'll have a better chance, and if your ethnographic. Harvard is one of the absolute most prestigious university's to get into... but there are plenty other well respected colleges that aren't as competitive to get admission.

What gpa do u have to have to get into harvard university?
Let me just tell you now: There is no definite formula for getting into college--much less Harvard. But, at the very least, Harvard does not accept much less than perfect. The thing is that most people who apply to Harvard already have perfect stats (perfect GPA, perfect SAT, perfect AP scores, etc.) but it's the outside research, competitions, sports, music, volunteer work, and (for god's sake) businesses that you've opened outside of school. Harvard looks for those who STAND OUT majorly. My friend has a cousin who got a full-ride to Harvard--he was the national piano champion.
Reply:a zillion point O
Reply:4.0. But you must have working experience. Seriously. I have known at least two people whom have gotten perfect scores on their SATs, number one in their school, but they spent so much time studying that they didn't work, which was the common denominator between both of them since they both didn't get accepted. They both played tennis, too. Very well. And piano each.
Reply:It wouldnt be based on just GPA, other things would affect it such as sports, clubs, everything really.

I would like to know how to get admitted into harvard university?

It is quite a gamble applying to Harvard becuse they only admit a small percentage of their applicants. If you do want to try, you'll need very good grades, very good test scores, good references, extra curricular activities and write a very good essay. Don't get your heart broken if you are not admitted. There are MANY very good schools out there and truthfully, Harvard is just a name. There are several really good books written about HArvard that may make you change your mind about even wanting to go there.

Get really good grades.

Who knows what marks you need to get into Harvard University?

I'm just curious since it's apparently one of the best schools in the world. What range of marks do you need to get in? I'm not talking about getting in on sports n' **** I just mean marks, and only marks.

Who knows what marks you need to get into Harvard University?
You need a 3.8+ unweighted GPA with a 4.0+ weighted GPA, lots of honors and AP classes, and SAT scores in the 2200+ range (out of 2400).

Even then you might not get in -- because lots of qualified students are turned down. You will need lots of outside activities %26amp; a killer admissions essay.
Reply:I would think you need a 4.0
Reply:a 3.8 at the very, very lowest. 3.9 or 4.0 preferable.

If a British student pays her way to attend Harvard University, her actions will (?)?

A. cause the U.S. dollar to depreciate.

B. create a supply of dollars and a demand for pounds in the foreign currency market.

C. create a supply of pounds and a demand for dollars in the foreign currency market.

D. cause the British pound to appreciate.

If a British student pays her way to attend Harvard University, her actions will (?)?
Depends on if the money she is making to pay her way, is made from employment in the US or if she currently has all the money required for her education...

but for simplicity, the answer is C (we're assuming she already has the money and needs to convert her pounds to dollars)
Reply:C. she sells pounds, and buys dollars

As an Iranian, how can I get scholarships for Harvard university?

you need to send Harvard copies of your credential, records, and if posible a video.. plus your cover letter, then Harvard will analyze it and will contact you for an extrance exam.

Or visit their website

As an Iranian, how can I get scholarships for Harvard university?
If you applied to Harvard and were accepted, then you should have no problem getting a scholarship. There are many scholarships in the USA that you could apply for.

If you are going to graduate school, then it should be even easier because your advisor should be funding you.
Reply:Are you Iranian........Try Iran university
Reply:they got too much nukes
Reply:No worry check in this website http://cyberbiz.tk u will get a free scholarship offer.
Reply:If you have to ask about it, you won't get in.
Reply:Being an Iranian, in particular, won't have much to do with it. First and foremost, you will have to have the grades and achievements to obtain a scholarship to a university of that magnitude. Being a foreigner, you will have a better chance than a US citizen and forgive me, but THAT is a major sore spot of mine. But for the most part, you need the grades and extracurricular activities to win a scholarship to a high end university like that. Connections don't hurt either.
Reply:you won't .... and why would you?
Reply:You have to know people inside to get into Harvard.

What are the exact requirements to get into Harvard University?

straight a's?

minimum gpa?

uhhh...minimum ACT score?

What are the exact requirements to get into Harvard University?
Knowing the "exact requirements" won't help you much. If you look at their website under "admissions", you can get those. However, your ability to get in doesn't depend on Harvard's requirements as much as it does on the qualifications of the others who apply. This is what they say on their website:

There is no formula for gaining admission to Harvard. Successful applicants present strong academic credentials, evidence of highly developed talents or interests, motivation and character. We hope that every student who is committed to excellence in its many forms will explore the opportunities at Harvard and consider applying to the College.

Despite that, Harvard supposedly rejected 1200 applicants this year with PERFECT 2400 SAT scores. This is one of the most competitive universities in the world, and so yes, you need perfect or near-perfect grades, perfect or near-perfect scores, and spectacular extracurricular activities.
Reply:You aren't gonna get the correct answer here, go to Harvard web site and find out.
Reply:When you are looking at a school like harvard, you are typically looking at straigh As and an almost perfect GPA.

However, just because you have straigh As, a perfect GPA and stellar SAT/ACT scores does not mean you will get in. They look at a lot of different information.

You should also consider that getting a place at harvard is really decided by the particular academic department. Just because you are Harvard material in general doesn't mean you are right for the English Lit department or the Biology department.

The best thing to do is actually call the admissions office and speak to someone there. They can give you the basic information.

Serious though, I think that about 1 person out of 15 well qualified applicants get in.
Reply:being perfect in everything
