How to get into Harvard University?

What programs are good for Harvard and how well do I have to score on the Sat's? Do they just drop students because of their gpa? I don't get why they are only selecting so few people.

How to get into Harvard University?
They are very selective because Harvard is considered one of the most prestiges colleges/universities out there.

Harvard is mostly known for their law or business programs. . .

No, they don't "just drop" students based on their GPA. . .they also consider the applicants supplementary profile (your extracurricular activities, volunteering, leadership programs, etc. . .), the SATs and the entrance essays. . .

You shouldn't be thinking of going to Harvard just because it's a prestige school. . .there are other schools out there that are just as good as Harvard. . .

You should visit the site for more information. . .and contact them if you feel the site did not answer all your questions. . .

Remember. . .Harvard College is for Undergrad Bachelors and Harvard University is for MBAs. . .

Assuming you are in high school. . .and you are considering to apply for Harvard College. . .look at the following site. . .

Reply:If you're asking about Harvard College, the school is really strong in many different fields (economics, English, government, history, biology, etc.).

Harvard University includes Harvard College, as well as many other graduate/professional schools, such as: Harvard Law School, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard Business School. All three of those are at or near the top of the rankings for their programs. There are also many other great graduate and professional schools at Harvard.

Since you're asking about SATs, I assume you're thinking of Harvard College.

There is not a specific cutoff for SATs, but you should do the best that you can. Some people with perfect scores get rejected, but of course some people with lower scores get in. So it's hard to say. I would say that you'll probably need around a 2200+ to be competitive, but if you get under 2200, you still have a shot, and if you get over 2200, you're still not guaranteed admission.

You also need a high GPA; I don't really know what you mean by just "dropping" students because of their GPA, but...I would say that if the student is getting mostly C's and D's, then yes, Harvard would reject him/her. You need to get as many A's as possible. A few B's are OK, but Harvard is so competitive to get into, that you really need as good grades as you can get.

Other important factors are: the SAT II subject tests, your extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and your application essay.

The reason Harvard is "selecting so few people" is not that they are doing it on purpose--rather, Harvard only has enough dorm rooms and classrooms for a class of about 1,200-1,400 students each year. And many more people than that apply to Harvard College (something like 10,000-15,000 students per year apply), so as a result, Harvard takes as many as they can, but they can only take as many as they have room for. So, in effect, they start with really the most qualified students, and keep selecting people until they run out of spots.
