What do you think of this? Did Harvard go too far?
Why did Harvard University close its gym to men for six hours to allow Muslim women to play basketball?
because muslim girls are way too hot..
Reply:Keeping the peace, I guess.
Reply:So the Muslim women would not be excluded from using the gym. I think it is resonable especially as it is not the only gym there, and it is only for a few hours. I wish people would get over it. The sky is not going to fall down just because some women played basketball without men being there.
Reply:It is the result of political correctness, which is a symptom of the "L-Tp Syndrome". Liberal-Type personality Syndrome, or those individuals within whose MINDs an intense fear of the Yang energy nature of the MIND exists. Fear of the Yang nature of ones MIND [The Yang (male) energy of ones MIND results in a fear of "personal responsibility"), causes ones MIND to feed Delusional Thinking [D-Think] to the Left-Hemisphere of ones brain, and such D-Think causes one to believe that one must do anything to avoid conflict or anyone becoming upset with or angry towards oneself.
When individuals within whom the L-Tp Syndrome is active hold positions of authority, they will inevitably fail to apply common sense to an issue, and they will always do things that are contrary to what "freedom for all" means.
Such people are ultimately those who would readily give
America's enemies the keys to America to avoid conflict which terrifies them.
Peace
Reply:They simply made an accommodation to a religious belief. It happens all of the time. The Muslim women paid their tuition like everyone else but were denied equal access to the gym because of their religion. The Harvard response was appropriate.
This frankly isn't a lot different than schools being forced to recognize that all women were being given unequal access to sports some years ago. Women pay the same tuition as men but were not given the same funding and opportunity to play intercollegiate sports as men attending the same University's. I'm sure that funding that had gone to Men's programs have been reduced because some of that funding is now going to women, but it was fair. So, some of the Jocks at Harvard lost 6 hours of time out of a week that they could have been in gym. Oh, boo hoo.
Reply:hell no! in islam, muslim women should be separated like when playing basketball, from the men.
Reply:there's many muslim women in Harvard University?? praise to god and shame to whomever said Islam neglect women's right.. ;)
Reply:Seriously? They are getting lots of money from the saudis...
Reply:Harvard and the like always go too far.
Reply:Whats the problem????
Men can use it all the time, is it SOOOO BIG DEAL that six hours was reserved for woman who don't want to show their body to strange men??????
Where is this world coming to???
If you like your wife, sister daughter to be half naked in front of everybody, thats your choice, give Muslim woman the same right to choose...
Edit:
Equality????
Soon you will say that woman must walk around the beach topless because men do so...you want that kind of equality? Let the woman be woman and men be men...
Reply:What a horrible thing.
I heard that last winter they closed it to all non-intramural athletes to let the intra-mural athletes play basketball. Now that's just racism.
Closing a gym to males for a few hours to prevent women from being ogled isn't "going too far," especially since there are several other gyms in which the men can play during those hours.
Reply:Muslims always get special dispensations like that. Its part of the reason secular society is fed up of religion. Its a trump card.
Reply:Yes, they should have only allowed the game to go on for 4 hours at the most.
Reply:In Islam, it is said that when a Muslim goes to a non-Muslim nation they should assimilate themselves into the local culture, as long as they are not prevented from being a true Muslim by:
1. Believing in one true god
2. The Messege of the prophets
3. The Messengers
4. Belief in Angels
5. Belief in the Afterlife
6. Belief in Pre-Destination
or being prevented from practicing Islam through
1. The word of god
2. Prayer
3. Fasting
4. Charity
5. Pilgrimage (if able and can afford it)
Nothing else is required, as long as a Muslim can do the above things, they are still good Muslims, nothing else is required.
Reply:Harvard is a private institution and so can much do whatever it likes, so long as no laws are broken along the way.
If you believe in liberty, you also believe in the liberty of others to do things you don't like.
Reply:that was a nice thing to do. who cares!
Reply:Harvard is a big school and has more than one gym. This is reserving time at one specific gym for 6 hours a week, much like any other intramural group reserving time.
It's not as if the entire campus is being denied gym time because of this.
Reply:no problem with separate gyms and exercise facilities...
it is the inch by inch of special accommodations.....change of class schedules for a call to prayer, the loud speakers for call to prayer, medical accommodations for the head scarf and sleeves for female medical students, (that is a bio hazard, remove it and wash fully before any procedure)
seeking in to our culture under the radar and demanding special rules....
Reply:I have no problem with that. In fact, I applaud Harvard for having the sense of right and wrong to encourage a sport for women while allowing them to follow their religion at the same time.
Reply:I would guess that they were trying to show support and fairness to Muslim women and the religious laws they must live under.
Reply:So the Muslim women could play basketball.....
Reply:Maybe someone asked them to?
Is there anything wrong with them making a minor effort to accommodate their request?
And could you give a link to a source?
Reply:Because they asked them to?
Incidentally, it's not "for six hours," it's six hours A WEEK. It's a trial program that is being tested. And it wasn't just for Muslim women, it was requested by other women's groups as well.
It also probably won't be continued, since the response has been somewhat underwhelming.
Reply:They closed the least used gym for a few hours a week so all their students have access to a gym without going against their personal beliefs. Whether or not they went too far depends on what their goal was. From what I've read they tried to accomodate those students with the least amount of disruption to the others as possible.
Reply:Well..unlike ur women who go around naked and with bikinis having no modesty.....we are different
Some cultures and religions are MODEST...unlike u!!
we actually believe that ur husband is suppossed to see his wife uncovered..not random men in the street.
Leave them alone....if u dont like it...tough cookies
Reply:Were you trying to get in?
I don't see any problem with it. Yeah, god forbid they defer to a certain group's preferences, ever. I mean, I think it's absolutely stupid that co-ed activities offend a religious sensibility, but if other people feel that way, fine, and I don't think it's a huge deal to do this kind of thing occasionally.
Reply:In case those muslim women had bombs under their burkas.
